Student bus discounts to launch as GCSE results issued across West

First Bus is introducing discounted tickets for 16- to 21-year-olds and students shortly after GCSE results were released across Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Students across Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire received their GCSE results on 20 August 2026, BBC Bristol reported [2].

The following day, First Bus announced changes to tickets across Somerset and the West of England that will take effect from 30 August [1].

First Bus said the new ticket range will integrate Somerset into a single offer covering the wider region, including Bristol and Bath [1]. Customers aged 16 to 21 and students will receive a 10% discount on eligible tickets, the company said [1]. Children aged 5 to 15 can travel for 50% of the adult fare [1].

A West of England Plus Day Ticket will cost adults £9.50 and students or young people £8.55, First Bus said [1]. The discounted tickets for students and young people are only available through the First Bus App and cannot be bought from the driver, the company added [1].
