Rivers trust call adds local weight to growth-versus-environment debate

A Somerset Gazette report on economic growth and a World Rivers Day plea from the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust together put the health of the Avon at the centre of a national question.

The Somerset County Gazette has reported on a discussion by Henry Haslam over whether economic growth can benefit the environment and whether growth should remain the key measure of government performance [1]. Read together, the two reports connect the abstract question of economic growth to the concrete condition of rivers in the Bristol Avon area.
