GCSE results issued across the West as Somerset bus fares set to change for new term

Thousands of pupils across Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire received their GCSE results on 20 August, BBC Bristol reported [3]. The Somerset County Gazette also reported results for students at The Castle School, West Somerset College and Taunton School on the same day [1], [2], [7].

First Bus Bristol, Bath & West service updates announced changes to tickets across Somerset from 30 August, integrating ticketing into a single offer [8]. A West of England Plus Day Ticket covering travel across Somerset, Bristol and Bath will cost £9.50 for adults, while local Town Day Tickets for Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil will remain at £6.80, according to the operator [8].

The standard single fare will rise from £2.40 to £2.60, although the £3 fare cap will stay in place, First Bus said [8]. Customers aged 16 to 21 and students will receive a 10 per cent discount on eligible tickets, and children aged 5 to 15 will pay half the adult fare [8]. Student, young-person and weekly or monthly tickets will only be available through the First Bus App or Tap On, Tap Off fare capping, and will no longer be sold by the driver, the update said [8].
