Bristol Water promotes reservoir charity run and water-wise plea while burst main affects over 1,000 properties

Bristol Water is simultaneously opening applications for a fundraising reservoir run, urging holidaymakers to conserve water, and dealing with a burst main that has left more than 1,000 properties affected.

Bristol Water has opened applications for the second annual Chew Valley Reservoir Run, which will take place from 9am on Sunday 20 September 2026 and raise money for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, the company said [1]. Runners can choose 2.5k, 5k or 10k routes, receive a personalised bib, goody bag and medal, and pay £15, with all proceeds going to the charity [1]. Last year’s event raised £2,450 for The Grand Appeal, whose next project is a UK-first Patient Hotel for sick children and their families, according to Bristol Water [1].

The run announcement comes as Bristol Water urges South West holidaymakers to use water wisely during a summer of warm, dry weather, low rainfall and high demand [3]. The company said customers work hard to use water efficiently and that visitors should “make every drop count” while on holiday [3].

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 properties remain affected by a burst water main that caused flooding, according to Bristol Water [4]. BBC Bristol reported that supply had been restored, but Bristol Water said over 1,000 properties were still affected [4].
