Bristol bus diversion joins flurry of late-August transport and children’s-nature data

A one-day closure of Gill Avenue in Fishponds will divert First Bus services 16 and 47x on Friday 21 August 2026, First Bus Bristol, Bath & West said [3]. During the 08:00-17:00 closure for carriageway repairs, services will start and terminate at Fishponds Straits Parade and will not serve Oldbury Court, Lawn Avenue, Stanbury Avenue, Ettricke Drive or Vassal Road, the operator said [3]. Passengers are advised to board or alight at Fishponds Straits Parade or Cross Hands [3].

The Department for Transport published accredited official statistics on travel-time measures for the Strategic Road Network and local ‘A’ roads covering the year ending June 2026 [1][2]. The figures measure congestion on motorways and ‘A’ roads managed by National Highways in England and on locally managed ‘A’ roads in Great Britain, the department said [1][2].

First Bus also announced Essex service changes from 30 August 2026, revising afternoon school-day journeys to align with local school movements and transferring routes 88/88A and 4 to Central Connect [5].
