Bristol area sees series of police, court, transport and planning notices in a single day

Avon and Somerset Police, North Somerset Council’s Trading Standards officials and HMRC visited 13 retailers in North Somerset during a two-day operation against the illegal tobacco trade on 11-12 August, the force said [1]. Separately, a man has been jailed for more than 12 years after police recovered a fingerprint from a Sainsbury’s Bag For Life, the North Somerset Times reported [2], [3], [4], [5]. In Bath, police are investigating an arson attempt and vandalism at the Odd Down centre, where the Astro playing surface, guttering and downpipes were damaged and graffiti was left on the building, Bath Echo said [8]. Transport changes are also planned: First Bus said North Road at Cromwell Road Arches will be closed on 21 August between 09:30 and 15:30, diverting service 70 and suspending several stops [6]. Meanwhile, North Somerset Council’s planning weekly list includes an application to erect a timber building for secure storage and a serving hatch for BBQ and light catering facilities, plus a fenced patio, at King George V Jubilee Playing Fields in Congresbury [7].
